Describes his participation in battles and sieges at Fredericksburg, MD; Petersburg and Richmond, VA; and Vicksburg, Miss. Includes letters from his wife and daughter, describing the impact of the Civil War on R.I. cotton manufacture.

Formed in 1862, the 7th Rhode Island Infantry Regimentserved in Kentucky from the summer of 1863 to April of 1864. Its units were quartered at Camp Nelson, Lexington, and Nicholasville. The regiment was recovering from the Mississippi Campaign and many of the soldiers suffered from illness and malnutrition.
